Are social media platforms really creating a space for public deliberation and democracy? Or are they amplifying content that keeps citizens addicted, disinformed, and angry?

Tensions all around us. Race war or class war. Social media does not make it any better. Whether you’re aware of it or not there are forces in the world that are trying to manipulate you.
Disclaimer*** We’re not saying that there isn’t racism that occurs. Nor are we trying to ignore the corruption and horrible events that occur because of police brutality.***
But there are forces behind the scenes of our country. People who don’t want you to ask why we elected them and if they are doing the job we entrusted them to do.
When the news cycle is continuously trying to focus your attention on one topic only. It limits the discussions we could be having.
History has found that time and time again our news outlets rank headlines and clickbait. Often hiding other things that our government could be doing behind the scenes.
Wag the Dog has been used over and over. During the Clinton administration with his affair. When Bush went to war in Iraq. When Obama launched 26,000 bombs and killed women and children in Yemen. When the FBI tried to pull a coup on Trump with false accusations about Russian interference. Then the Ukraine ordeal.
The political phrase wag the dog is used to purposely divert attention from what would otherwise be of greater importance, to something else of lesser significance.
It works on both sides of the party lines.
Why do they want you to go vote? Does that leader deserve your vote?
Will voting a certain way create the change you want?
Say if we all decided to be on the same side? That we weren’t in competition for each other? What questions would we ask?
Would we find out that the state on a local level is actually the ones to blame?
The ones that have been in congress for DECADES. Look at the extra wages from big corporations. How fair is it that they are given bonuses to pass laws that stifle and snuff out their competitors. Corporate consolidation exists because they want it to.
Isn't it strange that the people we ELECTED Started off the job making less to nothing... and now are millionaires?
The richest members in America are US congress and governors, the military advisor, the cabinet. Look it up and see for yourself.
Killer Mike says it himself in his Rolling Stone interview:
“the power of the state can corrupt good people, and that we need to trust the stateless.”
Oxford University does a study showing that the use of media can deliberately change votes. Media, government, religion, and even academia itself, can indoctrinate the masses. It’s very easy for them to do.
They can use biased sources to pit people against each other. Then the problem becomes which side are you on. Are you with us or against us?
These tactics use basic psychology:
Today you can be found guilty by association. Born a sinner.
Since when did association become enough to ridicule and label one vs the other. To defame and assassinate someone’s character. Fueling rage by showing you clip after clip. Appealing to your negative and basic emotions. To polarize us against each other.
If the only way to get justice is to humiliate outsiders, what kind of message does that send? If they are trying to create a feeling of guilt, shame, or helplessness... does it create constructive solutions?
I was told that “my silence is violence.” I began to ask myself. Why do they want me to feel this way?
Is there something about the information I'm getting that is making me feel this way?
The more I stepped back to think about it and researched further at the chaos around us what I found was shocking.
It’s more about economics.
This podcast discusses the deliberate and intentional use of social media to “attack political opponents or spread polarizing messages meant to divide societies.”
You should FEEL SUSPICIOUS if they are trying to DIVIDE you or pressure you to vote.
When you finally do vote you are more likely to vote for your team rather than to vote based on candidate policies. This continuous cycle on the state level supports the existing order of things.
The book mentioned is called: Ages of Discord by Peter Turchin
“Where these movements and subsequent violence is due to competition among elites.”
Elites are usually on the same side and vote the same way. But over time there is an overproduction of elites. Fewer positions of power are available for them to fill. Then it leads to fragmentation of the elites, where they mobilize masses against the currently existing order.
These policies they represent and put into action are policies beyond racism that keep money and power in the same place.
The police that we are so enraged by are enforcers of our elected leaders.
They are not doing it for your benefit.
If President Trump is gone tomorrow would anything change?
Hi Jane / Matt. Im Agustin from Spain. Actually, Im from Uruguay. Been living here in Spain 4 the last 15 years, currently running a business (coffeshop).
I happened to watch your videos of how you started from scratch with your farm and I find you have a similar mindset and vision as me and my couple. The thing is I was looking 4 places to visit in the countryside if we manage to go to Uruguay this year together (we always had to go separately), and just by chance I stumbled with your videos. I like your ideas and agree with your vision of the near future (probable future) and would really like to be part of that project of creating new economies and community. 4 now, I can share some feedback with you from this spot of Europe if you´d like to. May be we could collaborate somehow. I guess I´m just following my spine on this, knowing that I had to present myself to you in case you could be interested in sharing thoughts, information and ideas. Actually we are thinking of buying some land there, just in case 4 the same reason and purposes you mentioned. You seem a very intelligent and creative couple, just the kind of people we miss and need right now in this world. Let me know if you need some advice or contact in Uruguay, I hapen to have some good friends, good people that can be useful to you in case of needing them. As I said, we might be flying to Uruguay on Feb. Our families live in both Montevideo and Canelones, but we are planning to explore the countryside (we know very few of it). Anyways, our best wishes to you on this project, we think you are very brave. My email is amarquezcaballero@hotmail.com just in case. Cheers
